studio part 1

I personally love seeing photos of other artists’ work spaces. Today, I thought I would share part of mine with you. Today’s section is my main clay work space. The rest will be coming in future installments.

It’s not my dream studio, but it’s functional. I’ve accepted my space limitations and have accommodated by going up the wall.

In this first photo, the drawer containers on the left are full of canes, which are labeled by type. The shelves to the right are where beads go to dry the finish (1st coat top shelf, 2nd coat bottom shelf).

Next we have a place for inspiration images. The white board on the right is where I jot down notes and have index cards with orders posted. My main work space is a 12 by 12 inch marble tile. I also have various sizes of ceramic tiles for portable projects and for projects where I bake right on the tile. Tools, cutters and various other things I use frequently are all close at hand.

Under the desk are large plastic drawers. These contain my polymer clay. Opened packages and mixed colors are stored in zip bags or plastic wrap and put into the coordinating drawer. The drawers are labeled by colors and the bottom drawer is unopened blocks of clay. (This is just my PREMO!. I also have drawers of FIMO and Kato.)
