How many of you use Karen Hill Tribe Silver in your jewelry designs? Did you know that the Karen people are enduring an ethnic cleansing in eastern Burma? The result is between 500,000 to 1 million people living in hiding within Burma. In addition, a series of nine refugee camps along the Thai-Burma border house some 155,000, mostly Karen, refugees.
To give up on one’s homeland and strike out to a new place is a difficult choice. But the chance for citizenship, freedom and opportunity leads many to take the leap.
Royersford Baptist Church (RBC) in Royersford, Pennsylvania is sponsoring one such refugee family. Leaving parents and friends behind, this young family of a 19 year old father, and 18 year old mother and a two year old son has arrived in the United States to begin a new life.

The daunting task of learning the U.S. culture, language and getting a job lay ahead of them. They come to the USA with very little resources and are highly dependent right now on the generosity of others as they go to school and work and become part of our community.
