The Etsy Angels team raised over $500 for breast cancer awareness organizations during the month of the October. Please take a moment to read the blog post about the money raised and where it went.

I am very proud to be part of the Etsy Angels team. Each year the team raises funds for several different charity organizations and each October we raise funds for breast cancer awareness. Being a small group of women, this is something that is very important to all of us. Our team members include a gal currently going through treatment for breast cancer, a breast cancer survivor, members who have friends and family that are survivors, as well as, members who have lost loved ones to this terrible disease.

Just a reminder that I will be out of town November 10th through the 16th. My Etsy shop will be on vacation during that time. Polymer clay color recipe ebooks and tutorials will still be available for purchase though my website….look for the “shop” link above. The shopping cart is through e-junkie.com and the products can be instantly downloaded after payment. No waiting around for me to send the files.

And speaking of color recipe ebooks….I’ve already been asked when the spring 2012 color recipe ebooks will be out. The color recipe ebooks will start showing up in December. I do them in order of number of sales, so Premo! will be first, followed by FIMO Classic and then Kato.

breast cancer awareness bnr

Starting today at 5pm EDT, the Etsy Angels team is hosting a breast cancer awareness BNR treasury. What is a BNR? Basically it means buy and replace. You purchase something from the treasury (or participating shop) and that item is replaced by an item from your shop. Sounds simple, right? It is that simple, but you may have to act quickly. You need to state your intention to purchase from a shop in the comments before someone else beats you to it. FUN!

This BNR is special because the starting pink items all have a percentage of the sales being donated to breast cancer awareness causes. How great is that? You can have fun and help support a wonderful cause!

in the studio – getting ready to think pink

Yes, I’m getting ready to think pink. October is almost upon us which means it’s breast cancer awareness month. One of my Etsy teams, The Etsy Angels, raise funds for various causes throughout the year and every October we raise funds for breast cancer organizations. It takes on a new meaning this year as my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year and is now cancer free.

I like to have some new pink items each year for the think pink fundraising but hadn’t come up with anything until the other day. Don’t you just love it when inspiration hits? I made some beads several years ago for a group challenge based on a painting that was related to the challenge. This painting really spoke to me and because there is a connection between the painting and breast cancer awareness I’m going to revisit it.

What is the painting I’m talking about? I guess you’ll just have to wait and see what I’m up to. ;)

It is time to think pink! October is breast cancer awareness month and the Etsy Angels Street Team is raising funds for this great cause. Check out this forum thread for a list of participating shops that are donating a percentage of their October sales.

Near the beginning of the recession, I came across a reference to the lipstick effect. Here’s what Wikipedia says about the lipstick effect:

The lipstick effect is the theory that when facing an economic crisis consumers will be more willing to buy less costly luxury goods[1]. Instead of buying expensive fur coats, people will buy expensive lipstick[2].

At the time I thought, hmmmm lipstick beads would be cute. More recently trying to come up with something pink and fun the lipstick idea resurfaced.

Here’s my first try. This one has some cosmetic issues (pun intended) and will be made into a charm to put on my purse. The next round is in the works and will hopefully get listed later this week. There will also be a lighter pink version.

May was a crazy busy month, but I want to say, “Thank You!” to those who purchased heart pendants or other items from my etsy shop during May. Thanks to your purchases, I am able to donate $55 to the American Heart Association!

On a different note, I recently made some silver core pandora beads for a custom order and have been thinking about adding these to my store. I’m usually behind the current trends, but think these are adorable. I even bought myself a Pandora bracelet. :)

Heart to Heart pendants
50% of the proceeds from the sale of these pendants during the month of May will be donated to the American Heart Association, along with 10% of other sales from my etsy shop.

Etsy Angels are supporting the American Heart Association during the month of May. This was my charity pick. So I’d like to share my one of my personal reasons for supporting the American Heart Association.

My 7 month old baby girl needed to have a Patent Ductus Arterious (PDA) repair. Her little lungs were congested with the backed up blood. Her fingernails had a bluish tint to them because the blood was not making its way to the very tips of her little fingers. Her heart was enlarged because it was working so much harder to try to keep the blood pumped through her body.

Surgery went well. Immediately blood flow was back to normal, and within a short time her lungs cleared up and within a year or so her heart was back to normal size. Due to advances in medical treatment they were able to repair her heart through an incision between her ribs instead of going through her chest.

Today she is a perfectly healthy young woman who is going to be a mother herself. She is my personal poster child for supporting heart health.
