new monthly inspiration project

We have a new monthly inspiration project and a new granddaughter to start the new year. We welcomed our granddaughter, Layla Marie, into the world on January 4th. She shares a birthday with her big brother. Not sure how well either of them will like that as they get older. ;)

Granddaughter

While mommy and baby were at the hospital, we had our two year old grandson. I forget how much energy a two year old has…wore me out. Yesterday we had his slightly delayed birthday party.

Now on to the new monthly inspiration project…

Monthly Muse

The Muses from Greek mythology are the goddesses who inspire the creation of literature and the arts. Each month I will be your Muse by providing an inspiration challenge. The idea is to step outside your comfort zone, try something new and have fun. This group is open to all artistic mediums.

Playing along is easy…you can join in any time throughout the year. Upload your photos to Flickr, add them to the Monthly Muse Flickr group and tag them with the corresponding monthly tag. For example the first monthly inspiration will have the tag MM1.

And here is the first Monthly Muse inspiration. Mesh and denim shades (Marina, Dark Blue and Twilight Blue).

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! Hope you all are having a great start to 2012. We spent New Year’s Eve at home with the kids and grandson. From the photo below, it looks like our grandson was going to outlast my husband and Buddy the dog. :)

New Year's Eve

Tomorrow is our grandson’s 2nd birthday. It looks like he may have to share his day with his sister. My daughter was supposed to be induced last Friday, but got bumped and tomorrow is the day they rescheduled it for. Keep your fingers crossed for us that she doesn’t get bumped again….she’s getting rather grumpy about it. ;) I was blessed to be able to be there when our grandson was born and plan on being there to welcome our granddaughter. Hubby is taking the day off work to babysit, so that I can go to the hospital.

With everyone being home the past couple of weeks, I haven’t gotten much of anything accomplished. For those of you waiting on the FIMO and Kato Spring 2012 color recipes, I apologize. I had hoped to have the FIMO version done by the end of this week followed by the Kato version a couple of weeks after that. However, it will probably be the end of next week before I have the FIMO recipes done and a couple of weeks beyond that for the Kato recipes. After this week, life should slow back down and I will put my nose to the grindstone to get them done.

monday inspiration – sweet

Hope you all had a Merry Christmas! I have been enjoying family time and a little break from work, but time to get back at it. I have lots of plans for 2012.

Sweet spring colors make up this week’s color palette a week (CPAW).

Margarita, Sweet Lilac and Cockatoo

This brings to a close the color palette a week. I hope you have enjoyed the color palettes. You can always go back and hit some of the color palettes you missed or revisit some of your favorites. You can find all 52 color palettes here.

I’ve been thinking about a monthly inspiration project for 2012, so stay tuned…..

monday inspiration – vibrant

Vibrant colors for this week’s color palette a week (CPAW). It’s hard to believe that there is only one more Monday left in 2011.

I’m off to try and finish up my Christmas shopping today. I’m so behind and feeling the stress. Must remember to breathe…..

monday inspiration – warm and toasty

Warm and toasty colors for this week’s color palette a week (CPAW). Rich coffee liqueur, warm nougat and toasty emberglow make up this week’s palette.

Color Pallete A Week - week 50

I’m still working on the Spring 2012 color recipe ebook. It is taking longer than I anticipated, but hope that it will be worth the wait as it is bigger and better. ;)

The teenage son got in a wreck last night on his way home from work. He wasn’t hurt, just a little shook up. (It shook mom up as well.) It was his fault and he admitted it, which got him a $195 ticket along with having to fix his car since he only has liability insurance. I’m just grateful he wasn’t hurt.

guilty pleasure

I’m not a big fan of reality tv shows, but have to admit that Project Accessory has become my guilty pleasure. You can watch the episodes online here. (Yes, I’m being an enabler.) Each week designers, with varied backgrounds (hats, handbags, jewelry, shoes, etc.) have a different design challenge. The challenges involve creating multiple accessories in a limited amount of time around a theme. The designers are definitely pushed outside their comfort zones…jewelry designers creating a pair of shoes or a handbag.

How often do you step outside your comfort zone? If you have a clearly defined style and your work is easily recognized as yours that’s a good thing. However, if you don’t shake things up once in a while your designs may become stale. One of the things I’ve noticed while watching Project Accessory is that when the designers are pushed far out of their comfort zones, they lose their own sense of style.

So, how do you step outside of your design box while still retaining your own style? Baby steps. Change up your color palette. I’m not suggesting you work in neon colors if you generally work with a more muted color palette. Each season’s color forecast contains varied colors from brights to more muted shades. Try incorporating just a few seasonal colors into your designs. What else? Try a new technique or even working with a different medium. While the new technique or medium may not find it’s way into your designs, perhaps a shape or pattern will spark an exciting new idea.

What have you done this past year to step outside your comfort zone?

one of those mornings and spring 2012 colors

It’s been one of those mornings. I slept through my alarm, which meant the youngest missed his bus and I had to drive him to school. It was very frosty this morning….drivers side door wouldn’t unlock…got in through passenger side and hit the door lock…scrape frost off windows…get the kid in… my door won’t shut…drive kid to school holding on to door (which is very hard to do)…door shuts fine when I get home…imagine that. I’m hoping the rest of the day goes much better, even though it’s a busy one.

color mixing mess

As you might have guessed by the above quote and photo, I have been mixing Spring 2012 colors. My goal is to have the Premo Spring 2012 Polymer Clay Color Recipe Ebook in my shop by this weekend. I also hope to have the FIMO and Kato versions finished before the end of the month. Of course, I’ve yet to put up Christmas decorations or do any Christmas shopping…..
